I visited the Scratching Post again. This time I was guided (literally, by a volunteer) to a beautiful long-haired orange tabby girl, a new arrival. She had been dumped in a printer paper box outside the building. She was still in a cage, as she was still getting her shots, but she let me pet her and purred quietly. Then she let me hold her for a while. I think she could be the cat.

Thanks to my sister and a $12.95 box of Revlon Frost and Glow, I now have highlights again. Subtle ones. I'm almost blonde.

I'm glad you bonded with her ... when will you see her again?

In two weeks. They're only open Wednesdays and Saturdays and I'm out of town next weekend.

Her story is kind of sad: she was clearly somebody's pet. Her fur is well-combed and she's been fed good food. She's been spayed and declawed. (I would never declaw a cat, but my lease does stipulate that cats be declawed. I was planning on lying.) But somebody took her out of her home and left her in a box outside the shelter. Things happen, people die, sometimes cats need new homes, but this was cruel. But at least they left her with people who could find her a new home.

I made up a filk song involving a funk anthem and Guest Cat's real name, and my sister said, "You're really catting out. I hope you find your new one soon."
