Browsing cats

I went out to lunch with friends who own cats and then to the Meow Mart and Scratching Post. I fell a little in love with Sweetie, with her lovely face (she's prettier in person) and sad expression, and with Gideon and his fluffy butt and happy purr (but it would be hard not to love Gideon!)

Seeing all those cats, some happy, some not, some with obvious sad histories, some contented oldsters, made me realize how lucky [Own Cat] and I were to have each other. He had a good home and a loving owner: I had a happy, loving, purring, grateful kitty.

I bought Guest Cat a catnip pillow and some mice (and some earrings for me). She loves the pillow.

ETA: I wouldn't mind taking Elton and Edgar home, either. But I'd rename Elton Ethelred.

Sweetie looks so much like my dearly departed Meighan, right down to the temperment description, that she made my heart ache!

Aw! Did you lose her recently?

No, it was about a decade ago, but her birthday was just a few weeks ago, so she's been on my mind. Meighan was not what you'd call a friendly cat, but I loved her all the same.

The volunteer at the Meow Mart was saying that, among all the cats you'll have, some are just special. My late cat was like that for me. Sounds like Meighan was for you.
