Both Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett have died.

Something has definitely ended, some kind of era, but I don't know quite what.

I learned about Farrah this morning and I watched the MJ news complete with all of the confusion and misinformation as it broke on Twitter. And yet, it still really hasn't sunk it. I mean, I could never picture him as an old man, but it's weird to think that he's just...gone.

I'm also a little sad that he's upstaging Farrah who battled for so long against an insidious cancer. It's like Mother Teresa and Princess Diana all over again.

End of an era? Totally. Two icons from my youth are gone within hours of each other. Utterly surreal.

I emailed my old mate M, and said, "Our youth is over".

M replied, "It's not so much that they died, but
that their deaths were not particularly medically unusual - a woman over 60 dying of cancer and a 50 year old man having a cardiac arrest are rather commonplace occurrences - its that that makes it clear how time has moved on."

Sigh. I think he's right.
