Had a long, involved, multi-part dream in part of which I sat next to David Tennant, high up in an auditorium. He was wearing a bright turquoise jumper.

I was attempting to make friends, but he was courteously unforthcoming. He bid me a polite farewell and left, his back slightly bent as he carried a double bass in a cloth case.

I remained, talking to a work colleague who was reading and marking up a paperback copy of a play by Aristophanes. I was in Puritan costume, I believe.

When I awoke it was raining outside and my apartment smelled, inexplicably, of pipe tobacco.

I have a dream interpretations book, but I'm afraid it's no help for that one. :)

You know, I didn't even think in terms of interpretation until you mentioned it, but now I'm intrigued. There is a repeated theme of performance: being in an auditorium, the actor, the double bass, the play by Aristophanes.

Perhaps I can explain the scent of tobacco when you woke up. From what I understand, smoke, as from a fire or cigarettes, can linger in the wood of a building. When it rains, the moisture (or the change of air pressure, maybe?) causes the old smell to come out.

It could be that you smelled stale smoke without consciously recognizing it and your mind translated it as the smell of tobacco. Or, maybe tobacco smells can linger in the wood the same way as old smoke.

(And, yay! I'm not the only one who dreams about wearing period costume in casual circumstances. Not that meeting David Tennant is a casual circumstance....)

It's certainly possible. But it seemed more pleasant than that. Still, I don't have another explanation.

I like the icon -- is that Holman Hunt?

I think pipe smoke has a sweet smell, unlike cigars and cigarettes. But, I'm not an expert--I tend to avoid smoke at all costs, since it gives me a migrane and/or makes me ill.

My icon? It's a very small section of "The Danaides" by J.W. Waterhouse. I love all of his artwork. He does beautiful mythical scenes. (And one of his models happens to look a lot like me... but that has nothing to do with my love of his art!)
