I want to thank everybody who's responded to my last few posts for all your words of sympathy and kindness. I really am so grateful. Blessings on all of you.

Today passed uneventfully, except that a co-worker said, "There's always at least two ways to skin a cat," and then, after a pause, said, "I'm terribly sorry." I started to laugh, which seemed the best way to handle it, and accepted his (very thorough) apology. And truly, as an instance of monumental tactlessness, it was quite funny.

As the person who usually commits the faux pas, OUCH.

I laughed, because what else could you do? It had been a bit of a shock when he said it -- dead cats were not something I wanted to think about -- and I was wondering if he was going to realize what he'd said, when he started apologizing. He sounded so sorry that I felt sorry for him, and laughing seemed the best way to handle it.
