Can't sleep

This week I've been sleeping very lightly and waking up early, as you can see. I don't really know what to do with myself once awake -- read, I suppose. Get started on my taxes, perhaps. Continue my project of scanning my old bank statements so I can dispose of the paper records. (I get them in electronic form, now, but I have many years of paper records on file.)

Before I went to bed I was reading an interview with Kate Winslet and Leonardo di Caprio for "Revolutionary Road", and had a dream about two characters to be played by those actors, Catherine and "Pemby" Pemberton, a young married couple, time period pre-modern but uncertain. In the dream it was summer, and Pemby was out in California doing something, and Catherine was staying alone in their house, and concerned about the people next door, who held drunken parties continually and occasionally shouted things she couldn't make out as she passed by in her yard. She mowed the lawn, planning letters to Pemby in her head, fantasizing about him coming home.

No plot suggested itself, so I probably won't write about them, but I'm sorry to let them go. I enjoyed lying awake after I woke up, writing bits in my head, synthesizing their world.

I love dreams that are about characters. They are some of my favorite things.

About ten years ago I had a wonderful, complicated dream basically about Ruritanian nobility, and got out of bed and wrote it all down. It eventually turned into a fantasy story (which I can't figure out how to finish, but that's typical for me.)
