Cat update

I got my cat's latest blood test results today. His kidney numbers are very good, the best they've been since we started this, but his anemia is much worse. His RBC dropped from 23% to 16%, low enough to be a worry in its own right. So I've agreed to start him on erythropoietin. This is the hormone that stimulates red blood cell production. I was concerned about giving it to him because the version available is a human hormone, and some 25-33% of cats develop a severe immune reaction to it. But it seems like the right thing to do. He's visibly trembling now when he stands, as if his back legs are going to give out, and anemia does cause weakness.

He's been delightful lately: purring loudly, cuddling close, licking my hand: acting like a happy kitty. I hope the erythropoietin will make him a healthier one.

I hope the erythropoietin is successful, and I'm glad his kidneys look good.

Thank you. We'll be starting it next week, after the medication arrives at the clinic and I get trained in how to administer it.

Oh, poor kitten! Glad that his kidney numbers are up and he's acting like himself, though. Hope the erythropoietin works well for him *pets kitty*
