Whitefly

My sister says my indoor basil plants have a bad case of whitefly.

I bought them at a farmer's market in July, and they've been isolated ever since, so I assume they came that way.  She says to drench them in soapy water.  I did this, a few weeks ago, but if anything they look worse.

What should I do? Can they be saved?  I've never eaten any of the leaves, strange though it sounds.  I've been "saving" them, but they're starting to flower, so I need to harvest soon if I'm going to harvest.

Pinch the flowers. Don't spray the top of the leaves but the bottom. You can use an organic insecticidal soap if regular isn't working.

Thank you!

What about the leaves - if I don't see signs of damage, can I consume them?
