Lent, Day Seventeen

This was a pretty good day.  I got to work at a reasonable time.  I forgot my lunch and hadn't had breakfast, though, and it was Friday, so I wound up eating three vending machine bagels - one for breakfast, one for lunch (with a bottle of milk, for protein), and one for an afternoon snack.  Not optimal.

After work I went home and did some paperwork and some organizing.  I was feeling pretty pleased with myself, when my sister called with big news.  We ended up meeting at a T. G. I. Friday's and eating appetizers and drinking for a while.

We ended up at my place with my (little-used) guitar, playing "Me and Bobby McGee" and singing.  Then we realized it was midnight and remembered I have neighbors.  But it was a really good evening and we were very pleased with each other.

Me and Bobby McGee is SO my mother-in-law's song. I can't picture it without her voice behind it. Makes me want to introduce the two of you!

I've never heard you mention your mother-in-law before! I hope she's nice!

I can do "Bobby McGee" decently. I can't do the shouty bits: I'm too inhibited. But the rest I'm not bad at.

Bill's mom is awesome, and she can indeed do the shouty bits. Bill's dad (who is no longer married to Bill's mom) used to play it on guitar while she sang.

Bill's dad? Well, significantly NOT awesome, but he is very talented, and with him moving to Alaska with some woman he met online some years ago, he's seen his grandchildren only a handful of times, the most recent being long enough ago that neither child actively remembers him. Good riddance.
