Lent - Day Three

Yesterday the author of a tech book I was interested in notified me that I'd won a copy in a contest I'd entered.  So I'm happy about that.

I'm really happy to have been notified just now that the article proposal I submitted last week made it past the first reader and was forwarded to the acquisitions editor.  I have hopes!

I'm also happy that I remembered it was Friday and Lent and haven't had any meat today.  Or sugar, despite temptations.

It's a good practice, I think. Like EGT, I started it when I was low (my late cat was in his final days) and it helps with the mood. I'm much happier now but I still think it's valuable.

I heard about your system troubles on Twitter today: what was the cause? I really hope you have a good host now!

We have an excellent host now, actually. Our own equipment, collocated 35 miles away in downtown Pittsburgh. The problem was that the DRAC connection failed and the servers needed to be power cycled manually, and their primary tech support system failed (ie the on-call guy wasn't getting our emails, support tickets, or 800-number phone message notifications). Once I dug up the main guy's cell phone number, the site was back up within 15 minutes (basically, his drive time).
