Cat was utterly uncooperative today. I got 75 ml of fluid into him, max, and that was while pinning him down on the table with my own torso. And I wound up sticking myself in the aftermath and got blood on my t-shirt.

But I took a decent photograph yesterday.

I always wanted a picture of him with that blissed-out look on his face, and this is the closest I've come to getting it.

Aww, happy kitty.

Just a theory here, but if he's fiesty when you try to give him fluids and meds, it may be that he's feeling well enough to think he doesn't need them. I don't know if that's helpful or comforting in any way, but that's probably how I'd react if I were in his place.

Also, I remembered another thing we did for my cat when she was sick - aloe vera juice. It's sold in health food stores as a dietary supplement, and it boosts pets' immune systems. Slip some into his water bowl, if he's drinking from that.

You may be on to something. When I came home this evening, he was clearly in some distress, meowing insistently, and he was completely cooperative with the fluids, purring the whole time, and staying in place even longer than I needed him to. In fact, when I gently tried to get him to stand so I could lift him up and put him on the floor, he wouldn't stand up! I eventually lifted the basket off the table and put it on the floor, so he could get out when he was ready, and he stayed there until I went into the kitchen, when he came out to check out the water bowl. I don't know if he's capable of making the connection between not cooperating yesterday and feeling worse today, but it's either that or he's feeling too bad to squirm. (It might also be that I finally got the temperature for the fluid right. It was a little hotter than usual tonight.)

He may not know meds = feeling better, but cats can be like kids - "Mommy! I don't want to take the yucky medicine! I feel fine!" When my cat had toxoplasmosis (no idea if that's spellled right), she started fighting us at meds time when she felt better. It could also be that when he's cooperative that he doesn't feel well enough to get bolshy. If that's the case, at least you know he's feeling well when he's digging his claws into you.
