Wow, it's been almost a week since I posted! I guess I lost track of time!

Anyway. I've been on vacation for the last few days, and it's WONDERFUL.

I have Had My Eyebrows Done. Those very few of you who know me in real life know I have very pale but very bushy eyebrows. No longer! I now have fashionable brows. (Still pale, though.)

(Not sure what I think of it, to be honest. And probably a lot of effort to keep up. And it *hurt*. But it's kind of exciting, too.)

I really want this dress. It's very much my style, having a square neckline, flared sleeves, being black but lush, and showing off my legs. The problem is, I have nowhere to wear it but the company Christmas party. On the other hand, it's classic. And I could wear it to an End of the World party I was invited to on December 12.

Wondering whether, if I buy it, I should buy these shoes, too. I have no party shoes.

On a more mundane note, I am taking my car in to have its brakes looked at early Friday. Which means I either have to leave my parents' town on Thx night, or early the next morning. But it was the only opening I could get before I go back to work.

I should have arranged all this last week, and I'm sure I'll be told so, but I only just got my car back Saturday morning (it was being painted after someone scraped it in a parking lot.) And I only formed the conclusion that the brakes needed attention after contrasting it with the rental car. I did what I considered a tap on the brakes in the rental car, and nearly went through the windshield, so I concluded that mine, which need a bit of grinding to do what they ought, are probably NOT all they should be.

My little red netbook came to grief, in that a bottle of soda exploded on opening and drenched it (and a lot of carpet). About half the keyboard is non-functional, and the folks at the shop say it needs about $450 in parts and labor to be fully OK again. I originally paid $399 for it.

I am thinking that I will just take it back home and buy a USB keyboard and see if that helps. Maybe there's such a thing as a collapsible keyboard that I can carry with me, as an auxiliary keyboard somewhat defeats the purpose of having such a small computer. That's not a long-term solution, but I don't feel in a position to buy another laptop right now. Maybe in the New Year.

And if it turns out that something prevents it from working with a USB keyboard, or the liquid damage causes other parts to give out, then all I'll be out is the cost of one smallish auxiliary keyboard.

But, in good news: after a lot of fuss and three separate install efforts, I managed to get The Sims 2 installed on my superfast Windows 7 desktop. Fun.

I remember the first time I had my brows done. OUCH! But they've actually been pretty simple to keep up with tweezers at home since then.

That dress paired with those shoes would be AWESOME!

Enjoy the rest of your vacation! I hope it's a good balance of getting things done with just kicking back.

My hope (re this vacation) is that I can get some Stuff At Home done and also write at least one article. But I don't know: the laziness I've fallen into at work seems to be affecting me at home. I took my time-release Ritalin - and promptly took a nap!

I might just buy that dress. It ought to be here by the 12th, wouldn't you think?

I would certainly hope that dress would make it to you by the 12th!

In case you've been wondering if I've fallen off of the face of the earth, emerging only to snark about Strictly Come Dancing every weekend, I've been busy tearing down the world's nastiest decade+ -old wallpaper in my kitchen and trying to get everything repainted before we have a house-full on Thursday. I thought it was going to be a 3-day project, tops, but I'm now a full 2-weeks into it and I'm still not done, although I'm close. I am sore and exhausted. But lord, the kitchen looks better. For emphasis, my husband re-iterated that cat poo smeared on the wall would be an improvement over what we had. But this looks and smells much better.

I did wonder where you were and how you were doing!

You have a house-full on Thursday? I hope you're not having to cook for a crowd after all that work! (Especially if you're footing the bill for all that food!)

I offered to do Thanksgiving this year after my mother said (in as many words) that she was looking forward to the day when [my or my sister] hosted at one of *our* houses! But when I expressed willingness, she dithered and finally said no, she'd do it this year.

So I'm bringing a side dish. I'm also bringing brownies and some high quality Assam tea that I was introduced to at a tea shop event on Sunday. They make an excellent combination. But I have to hurry home on Friday because of the car appointment (mentioned in the post).

My mother paid for the turkey, my godmother sent a grocery-store gift card, and a few side-dishes are being brought, but yeah, I'm cooking. I'm the only one in the family left that knows how (excepting my Gram, and she turned the duty over to me over a decade ago). Bill said might as well work on the kitchen since from now through the end of December, I am going to be living in that room for all of the cooking and baking I have to do.

The tea-and-brownies combo sounds lovely!

Did you have them waxed or threaded? When I get my eyebrows waxed, it usually doesn't hurt that much--less than if I tried to tweeze them. I can stretch a waxing to last a month, but I have to do some upkeep myself in the meantime. I was doing it for a while, but I haven't found a place to get it done out where I go to school so I let them go back to their natural state.

Threaded. There's a lovely Iranian lady in my town who recently opened a salon. I was recommended by the folks at my hairdresser's. She does the cheerleaders of the local NFL team, apparently.

The whole time I was there, she was steadfastly ignoring the advice of a guy selling promotional opportunities of some kind (I couldn't make all of it out.) He wanted her to appear at a beauty showcase coming up on Wednesday, promised he could get her customers in droves. She wouldn't listen to him.

Would a Roll-Up Keyboard do the job?

Thank you re the netbook and the dress. The dress has been ordered. The netbook is in the shop; I hope to pick it up tomorrow. I'm not having anything done with it, but I hope it can limp along until I can consider getting a new personal laptop in the New Year.
