No, really

I've been housekeeping, and enjoying it immensely.

No, really. I don't often get a day that's sunny enough that I'm not propping up my mood, when there's very little specific that I need to get done, and when I actually have time to consider the poor arrangement of shelves in my kitchen and what I can do about it.

Similarly, I'm going through the pile of papers that's built up on my library coffee table and finding that a lot of them can be recycled. Some of them were never meant to be kept in the first place and somehow found their way into that pile rather than the Shredding Box. Work that you don't have to do is such a nice discovery!

(I also found that the window in the spare room was open, which explains why it's been so cold in here and also why Mrs. H. downstairs has got her heat cranked so high.)

So I'm trotting around, throwing things away and picking things up and hanging things in closets, sweeping the laundry room floor and putting things in neat piles for Basement, Garage, Car Trunk, Goodwill, and so on.

Somewhat improbably, this is actually fun.

Good for you! I donated two more bags worth of kids clothes to St Vincent de Paul and handed over 10 outgrown coats (both mine and the children's) to my church coat drive today. There is so much more space in our hall closet right now, it's not even funny.

It also feels good to do something to help others. I may not have money right now, but I have stuff. And now I have less stuff, and it's awesome.

Yes, it feels good! although intimidating, when you realize that you've increased the net order of the universe, yet to the casual eye, everything still looks untidy!

(This is due to the piles of stuff-that's-going-somewhere, plus the fact that I didn't tackle my desk or table. But those can be made pretty just by putting things into a pile.)

Aside from the Goodwill pile, I don't think today's exercise did much to help others, but it did make me feel good to establish order.

Just remember that when in the midst of organising, it always gets worse before it gets better.

The challenge is how to not stop (or be stopped) in the middle!
