Another Kitchen, Not My Own

I periodically have dreams in which I'm inspecting dwelling places and looking at the kitchens. Usually the kitchens are pretty pitiful, with battered cooktops and tiny fridges and utility sinks. In those dreams I'm assessing whether I could live there or whether I'm in big trouble.

Sometimes there are multiple kitchens. Sometimes I can tell I'm dreaming because there's another cooktop with even more burners just beyond the one I'm seeing, and multiple sinks. Dishwashers, sometimes. Trash compactors. Water heaters. It's like the archaeology of a house, except that instead of ripping out a kitchen they added another one next to or almost on top of it.

If the house is a metaphor for the self in dreams, as my sister says, what do all these kitchens mean?

Oh, that *is* interesting.

I can really relate. I have a dreams that I've just moved into a house and at first it just seems really large or possessing more than one wing but then it turns into a maze of corridors and secret passageways and attics and basements. By the time I wake up I'm feeling lost and confused.

With that metaphor, gotta wonder what that says about me. ;)

Goodness! That dream sounds exhausting! (Also like the old computer game Adventure!)

I took a nap this morning (I'm out sick) and dreamed about houses again, but not (this time) about kitchens. Often I dream that my house is full of people that I'm trying unsuccessfully to herd from room to room, or out of the house. What do they represent, I wonder? Unwelcome thoughts? Memories?

These house dreams are certainly strange.

And yes, mine are a bit on the exhausting side.
