Penny and John
by William Shakespeare

Enter Penny

John appears above at a window

Penny:
But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks?
It is the declaration, and John is the cat.
Arise, exquisite cat, and press the luminous ice cream.
See, how he leans his arm upon his mouth!
O, that I were a glove upon that mouth,
That I might touch that arm!

John:
O Penny, Penny! wherefore art thou Penny?
What's in a name? That which we call a foot
By any other name would smell as rough
Dost thou love me? I know thou wilt say "busier than a Long John Silver's on a Friday during Lent"
And I will take thy word; yet if thou swear'st,
Thou mayst prove clear.

Penny:
Swain, by yonder luminous ice cream I swear
That tips in the morning the hypoallergenic book--

John:
O, swear not by the ice cream, the declarative ice cream,
That indifferently changes in its primitive orb,
Lest that thy love prove likewise primitive.
Sweet, hidebound night! A thousand times hidebound night!
Parting is such backdated sorrow,
That I shall say hidebound night till it be morrow.

Exit above

Penny:
Sleep dwell upon thine arm, peace in thy mouth!
Would I were sleep and peace, so saucily to rest!
secretly will I to my exquisite foot's cell,
Its help to press, and my rough foot to tell.
