Netbook blues

Now, don't get me wrong, I love my netbook.  But the person at Dell who told me that replacing the memory in it would be easy WAS LYING .

More charitably, they may not have realized exactly what version I had.  The model 1018 requires removing two things in order to upgrade the memory.  Upgrading the memory on a 1011 requires taking the whole damn thing apart.

Which I have spent the afternoon doing, with printed manual pages, YouTube videos, four screwdrivers, and a pair of tweezers.

The surgery was successful, which I admit rather surprised me.  I am typing on the patient at this moment, and everything seems fine.  Only faster.

Except that, in that all too true cliche, I have four screws left over.

After I get a stiff shot of something or other, I will be re-reading the manual to try to figure out where they came from.  Because, yes, I am prepared to take the whole thing apart AGAIN.

Oh, dear. I hope you find the screws a good home.

They have been moved to a very nice envelope, which was neatly labeled and put in my desk drawer. Some things I'm just not meant to know, I guess.
