Question: eBay

I have a number of lengths of good quality uncut fabric (mostly wool, linen, and cotton) that I bought for various tailoring projects back in the day and never did anything with. I'd like to try selling them on eBay.

I've never sold anything on eBay -- bought a few things, but never sold. What would I be taking on if I do this? Is eBay something that requires careful watching and attention, or does an auction, once set up, take care of itself? Are you notified via email if something needs doing, or do you need to regularly check for "messages"?

Anyone have any suggestions? Warnings? Advice?

Thanks, all.

eBay typically sends you your email messages, although you want to make sure you're preferences to receive emails (rather than using eBay's message system) are set that way.

Since you don't have a reputation as a seller yet, you may need to underprice your items a bit. Take good pictures of your fabrics. Try to sound like a real person in your descriptions.

And if you're leary of the big eBay system, you can also sell fabric at Etsy and Artfire.

Oh, thank you! That's very helpful! Esp. about perhaps needing to underprice the fabric. I hadn't thought of that: I was just going to see what similar fabrics were going for.

(I need to get a fabric arts icon, given both this and the knitting and crocheting I do!)
