From the "Life is never dull" department

There's water dripping from my kitchen ceiling. I suspect my upstairs neighbors' dishwasher. I've currently got a roasting pan balanced on two bowls to catch the drips.

Yes, I've called Maintenance. (That's the big advantage of living in an overpriced apartment complex: when you have an emergency, they *do* respond.)

ETA: Maintenance just stopped by to say that it looks like the upstairs neighbors put regular dish soap in their dishwasher: there's suds everywhere. I'm to call again if this is still happening in an hour (he's shut off the dishwasher) and again on Monday to have my ceiling patched.

I think the dripping may be slowing down: whew!

ETA: It stopped for 45 minutes, then started again, and now is stopping again. I hear a lot of activity upstairs: sounds like the residents got home, turned on the dishwasher, and discovered what was happening.

Yuck. Well, at least if it's soap suds it's mostly clean drippings. And happy birthday regardless! My intention was to write something for you today but I have not finished ANYTHING.

Thank you! I appreciate the thought! (I had a very happy day, ceiling leak aside!)

That would be funny if not for the water damage. Classic comedy trope (though I ran across someone who did this with a washing machine and dish soap).

Amazingly, there doesn't seem to be enough damage to warrant patching. It looks as if there was a similar incident some time in the past, and the area was caulked. (I'm quoting Garrett from Maintenance.) Assuming no mold forms, it ought to be fine!

(Also, the appliances that were sitting on the counter underneath the drip still work, which was a worry of mine.)

Well, that's good news. Hopefully, since it's summer everything will dry out ok.
