An Appeal to Hostesses

What types of beverages do you keep on hand to offer to guests?

ETA: I forgot to say "thank you" to any of you who responded, but thank you very much for your responses and suggestions! I feel I can go out and pick out a reasonable selection of things now.

I'm so bad about this. We tend to have water, diet ginger ale (Canada Dry, please, the rest is hideous), sweet tea, and occasionally Crystal Light.

ETA: ... and rum, vodka, whiskey, and a bottle of Dooley's toffee cream vodka in the freezer.

ETA 2: Oh yeah, and some Guinness.

I usually have Crystal Light, diet something, tap water, and the contents of my liquor stash, which is so rarely tapped that I never remember what I have. I think I'll get some canned ginger ale, iced tea, and bottled water.

Water, coffee, tea, ginger ale, lemonade, and depending upon the occasion, wine, beer, or something semi-froofy, like sangria. We also have an espresso machine and sometimes offer to make lattes, etc.

Sounds good!

I'm having some people over for lunch today, and all I have is tap water, Crystal Light, teabags, and diet Pepsi. I think I'll pick up some bottled water, bottled tea, and ginger ale.

I usually have a bottle of white wine in the fridge; filtered water; and canned soda.

And, of course, whisky, tea, and coffee :)

Canned soda, bottled water, and bottled tea sound like good choices for a guest-ready stash.

I bet it's Scottish whiskey, no?

Nothing, I'm a terrible hostess. ;-)

Me, too. All I have at the moment is Crystal Light, Diet Pepsi, and the tap. But I plan to go out shortly and get some canned ginger ale and bottled water and tea.

First off, what type of guests? Neighbor stopping over to gossip or invited for a dinner party?
If you have advanced notice, i.e. you actually invited them, you should try to find out what they like to drink so you can have it available. So if its an invited house guest and all they drink is diet Dr. Pepper, you should try to have a 2liter bottle for them.
If it's a "hey everyone, come on over and let's watch movies and eat popcorn," then cola, some non caffeine soda and water is fine.
And if its a nosey neighbor looking for some gossip, you say that you haven't been to the store yet this week and all you have left is "the last of the keg and some jello shots". Gives them something to talk about. LOL

I was thinking primarily of invited guests, since I had some coming, but I was also thinking of any person stopping by, who might want/expect/welcome something other than tap water and Crystal Light.

I did ask my guests in advance about what they wanted, and they dithered and said water was fine, so I bought some bottled iced tea, ginger ale, and bottled water. All were sampled. (I forgot to ask the iced tea-drinker whether she wanted any sweetener, though -- oops!)
