But there is this: unless I eat a big meal of something unhealthy (like a Chinese takeout platter of Fried Things In Sauce) I seem to get hungry -- physically hungry -- every two hours. I'm eating lots of (vegetable) protein, lots of fiber, a reasonable amount of fat: this shouldn't be happening.

Wish I had some deep thoughts for you ... if you've got any way to check your blood sugar, that wouldn't be a bad idea. Thyroid check wouldn't hurt either. How long has the fever been going on?
I am getting cravings for unhealthy food a lot: takeout Chinese, Wendy's hamburgers, etc. I don't know what to make of that.
