Season 5 recaps on TWoP

TWoP is recapping Season 5 of Doctor Who, which is a bit bittersweet. I would have loved to read Jacob on Seasons 3 and 4. His season recaps were so allusion-heavy as to be almost impenetrable.

Anyway, his recap of The Eleventh Hour seems to be on the money, both about that episode and about what those of us who are further ahead in the season have been bothered by. He does have some interesting analysis of Amy and about the kissograms, which I think may have some merit.

(I suppose I need to get a generic Who icon, since all of mine are Tennant-heavy. Matt Smith reminds me strongly of ... someone I can't quite place, but who is associated with sad feelings. Don't know why. Anyway, I don't have anything against him, but I'm not enough of a fan yet of this season to get an icon specifically of him.)

I agree, I really loved his recap. Some bits of it I didn't understand (as usual) but I thought it was a very fair assessment. And I really liked his analysis of Amy, the kissogram, and the Amy/Doctor relationship in general. He just cast everything in a way that I hadn't quite done it before.

He made it intelligible, I think, rooted it in something. I assumed that the reason for the kissogram bit was to stage the gag of a policewoman interrogating him who turns out to be Amelia Pond grown up. But Jacob makes it seem like it was based in genuine artistic intuition.

It'll be interesting to see whether this plays out in any way. So far, with the exception of Ep 2, there's always been something more important than Amy's experience going on in every episode, except for the requisite Brilliance at a key moment.

Oh good. I'll have to check this out. I was really sad he only did season summaries for S3 and S4.

I'm also feeling the meh-ness of S5 though I've only seen ep1. Not sure how I feel about that kissogram business. I kinda wish he took little Amy with him. She was adorable. ;)

Little Amy was definitely adorable! According to the Confidential, she's Karen Gillan's cousin, although they'd never met. A clever way of getting a similar-looking actress to play the young Amy!

Aha! I did think it amazing she so looked so much like Karen Gillan. That certainly explains it.

It took a bit to get to the kissogram analysis, but I do think he actually has something there!

And like you, I am still S5 icon-less.

I hope it's either deliberate or subconscious on Moffat's part, and not just a coincidence. It's a little more complex and twisted a relationship than usually exists in the Who world.
