Liberty of London is doing a collaboration with Target. I like to think I'm not surprised by much, but I didn't see that one coming.

I guess it's that I always thought of Liberty as a constant in life (although I haven't patronized them in years) rather than an aspirational brand. But then I thought that about Coach, and look what happened there.

All that said, I might buy one of the bikes, assuming it's not essentially a toy. I could use a bike, and a Liberty-print bike would be a private joke that you'd need to know the last 20 years of my life to find funny.

Augh! There are wellies! Liberty-print wellies! Now I am stricken with yearning-for-objects, and there are no Targets in Canada at all. I think the nearest one is in Pittsburgh. Maybe I could drive there tomorrow? It's only four or five hours away ...

Sometimes life in the Workers' Paradise makes me sad.

There must be a story as to why there are no Targets in Canada. Do you know it?

I don't. But I do know that one hears that there is going to be a Target coming soon, any day now. And one has, she sniffed, been hearing that for years.

They aren't officially available yet, according to the website, but once they are, you could have them shipped to me and I could send them on to you ....

Aw, thank you! But really what I yearn for is to be able to poke at the stuff, you know? I mean, there's no point in getting a teakettle, no matter how Liberty-printed, if it's not the right teakettle ...and like you, I am very curious about the bikes.

Hmmm. I need a liberty-print icon, or at least a paisley one. But the Bridget Riley icon will have to suffice for now.

Oh, I do know know what you mean. I was explaining to someone on Thursday that buying a new pepper grinder was not going to be a short process. If the only two variables were functionality and price, it wouldn't be that difficult. But if you have to add style to the mix, matters are either decided instantly or become agonizing.
