Jack, who has two carefully selected pet beds he never uses, has decided his bed will be a basket I bought to eventually hold mail, that is currently holding a number of Target plastic bags.

I moved a similar basket over by it, lined with cloth, which I thought would be more comfortable. No dice. He wants the one with the now-flattened plastic bags.

Who am I to argue?

They're contrary beasts, aren't they? Moly will sleep in a cat bed, but nobody else will. Penny sleeps in empty boxes, sometimes empty boxes she doesn't fit in without contorting like a pretzel. We got a second cat bed, thinking she might like it, and perhaps the first one smelled too much like Moly-fur. No dice: Moly's the only one who'll sleep in that one either. All of them take great pleasure in sitting on anything that doesn't really belong on the floor: bags, pieces of tissue paper, flattened Mylar balloons, whatever. I don't see the attraction, but they look so smug about it.

Jack also likes to steal my chair, as soon as I get up from it. But I've outwitted him. I have more than one chair.

Ha! I've found Penny on my desk chair every morning this week. They really go through phases when it comes to favorite sleeping spots.
