Since as per usual there isn't much food in the house, I'm eating pizza sauce on whole wheat bread, topped with cheese, for lunch. I tell you, I'm lucky I have the bread.

I tend to have a lot of ingredients -- various flours, canned tomatoes, spices, eggs, onions, olive oil -- but no actual grab-and-go food. Which might explain why I eat cereal a lot. It doesn't occur to me to start cooking until I'm actually hungry, and then I need something *now*.

So I guess this is the realization that I need to do real meal planning, like a real grown-up.

I have to admit, what works best is stuff that can stay in the freezer or cupboard until I'm ready to use it, like Trader Joe's shelf-stable Indian dishes or Annie Chun noodle bowls. But the cost of those adds up. (sigh)
