I can see the point to this, but unless it becomes the done thing, I don't think I'll do it. 

Nice of them to offer the opportunity to users, though.  I could see people who get a lot more traffic than I do making some helpful money that way.

Of course, when I've witnessed that scenario, it's usually been due to dissatisfaction with either the previous developers or the organization providing the previous developers. Those circumstances may not apply here.

Then again, you generally don't do your best work when you know your company is up for sale, and companies going through acquisitions generally aren't allowed to spend any money. Neither one makes for code quality or rapid response. So the new developers may well have inherited something of a mess!
