State of a Saturday

I have a small list of items to do, most of which I don't want to do and don't have to do, although I can see the advantage of them being done (like cooking a couple of dishes for the week.)  I also have to go out and pick up a package.

What I really want is to take a nap, since I slept badly and despite tea and Diet Pepsi all morning I'm still sleepy.  But if I do I'll be unable to pick up the package, and I already missed a couple of opportunities to pick it up.  I have thank you letters to write, and I can't until I actually get the package and see its contents. 

So this is me trying to talk myself into rising out of this chair and seizing the rest of the day. 

Get up, love.  I'll make you an Almond Energy Blast if you fetch the package and make it to dinner without taking a nap.

I am addicted to Almond Energy Blasts. I've found that a really nice variant is to add the zest of two lemons, which gives it a nice citrus flavor without any tartness. So good. I've also added cinnamon and nutmeg, and I've thought about adding orange or lime zest for something different.

One of the challenges with South Beach for me is that I really get bored with eggs for breakfast -- and these soy smoothies are just perfect. Yummy.

For me, liquids tend not to be filling, so these smoothies aren't enough of a breakfast. But maybe with some whole grains cereal (when I can have it again!) on the side, it would work.

Tomorrow night I'm planning to try freezing a batch in this little ice cream freezer I have. I think it's got enough body that it would work, although it might not be as sweet as we're used to ice cream being.

I've also thought of adding a few teaspoons of a really good-quality cocoa powder, although that would make it much less breakfasty!

Ooooh, I love the idea of running it through an ice cream maker. Let me know how that comes out! We've debated the merits of acquiring a little one and this would certainly be a factor.

I forgot to say that it's good with some cocoa powder, too -- we usually have unsweetened Ghirardelli around. We're out at the moment, so I'm glad you reminded me. :)

PS: What do you do with the rest of the lemon? I have a de-zested lemon in the fridge that I'm not sure what to do with!

I usually do the lemon zest variety when I have something else I need to do with the rest of the lemon. I've also made a vinaigrette from the juice when I've ended up with a random naked lemon.
